The First Sunday in Lent
Greg Smith
Description
Our readings for this past Sunday were Exodus 24:12-18; 2 Peter 1:16-21; Matthew 17:1-9, and the overall theme I draw from them is: “Transformation – what the Lord wants for us.” In Exodus, we have the account of Moses being invited up the mountain by the Lord, where he is given God’s law – God’s revelation to mankind of His nature, character and guidance for living in relationship with Him and with one another. This event, this revelation, was transformational for Moses, for God’s people Israel, and for all humanity. Our Gospel lesson and the Epistle both give an account of the transfiguration of Jesus Christ before Peter, James and John – which, again, was transformational for them, and indirectly for us as we begin to grasp what Jesus has in mind to do for and in those who would be His followers. As you watch the sermon, contemplate the marvelous transformation the Lord seeks for us all.
With much love and many prayers,
